The gorge of Natisone

Over the last millennia the Natisone river has changed its path many times. After having deposited hundreds of meters of gravel dug along the Julian Prealps, the water, rich in carbonates, has patiently cemented the pebbles with each other, creating new rock: the conglomerates.
The Natisone’s conglomerates are particularly tough and the river is currently digging again them by forming canyons and gorges.
